Two pilots from United Airlines were released on bail Monday after being charged by authorities in Scotland of being under the influence of alcohol prior to a flight from Glasgow to Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday.

The Boeing 757 flight took off later that day with a new crew and 141 passengers on board, according to the Evening Times of Glasgow.

The newspaper writes that “on Monday, both men appeared in private at Paisley Sheriff Court, where they were charged under section 93 of the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003, which covers alcohol limits in aviation.” The pilots “made no plea or declaration and were released on bail ahead of a further court date to be set,” the newspaper adds.

United said in a statement to The Associated Press that Saturday’s Glasgow-Newark flight was delayed for about 10 hours while the company looked for a replacement crew to operate the flight.

“The two pilots have been removed from service and their flying duties,” United spokeswoman Erin Benson added in a statement to the news agency. “We are cooperating with the authorities and will conduct our own investigation as well. The safety of our customers and crew is our highest priority.”

The Evening Times says the latest incident in Glasgow follows a similar one from July, when two Canadian pilots for Canadian leisure carrier Air Transat were arrested on suspicion of drinking before operating an Airbus A310 on flight from Glasgow to Toronto. The Air Transat pilots were released on bail, but had to surrender their passports ahead of future court dates, according to the Belfast Telegraph.
